Welcome to Burke's Books of Park Ridge!
COME & VISIT OUR NEW STORE!

Spring is FINALLY here, and we still continue to be your FAVORITE local independent bookstore, now we are just 2 blocks down from where we were for the last 7 years, and in a fabulous, new space!

We made it through the big move, AND the busy, busy, holiday season. Our book group discussions were, and continue to be, enlightening and amazing. Earlier this month, we hosted some very wonderful authors, TIM GREEN, for his kid's books, Football Genius, Football Hero, and his brand new book, Baseball Great, and also, GAIL KONOP BAKER, for her wonderful and insightful book, Cancer Is A Bitch (Or I'd Rather Be Having A Midlife Crisis)!

We have some very exciting events coming up also: one of our very favorite authors, Elizabeth Berg, for her new book, HOME SAFE, and our own local author, Patricia Crisafulli, for her new book, THE HOUSE OF DIMON: HOW JP MORGAN'S JAMIE DIMON ROSE TO THE TOP OF THE FINANCIAL WORLD, which has gotten rave reviews by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.Stay tuned to our website and the store for all of the details.

As always,we believe that local, independent businesses (especially booksellers), are SO important to the community, and in these tough times, we all need to show those businesses that are important to us and our town, that we want them around, and we will support them and the contributions that they make, with our business as consumers.

We hope that you will continue to love the personal service that we always try to give our customers, and feel free to give us any feedback whenever we can possibly help in any way.

Our amenities are many: we have free delivery service to anyone within a 7 mile radius of our store, we offer a variety of discounts to customers who visit our store, and send out weekly coupon offers for added discounts.

Burke's is proud to have our own Book Group that meets every 5 weeks with a new selection and some VERY lively discussion. We will be happy to accomodate any group who would like to host a meeting in the store, with a discount to the group on that meeting day/evening.

If you haven't been to our store, and become part of our Burke's family, please do so, we think that you will never want to leave!

If you are looking for suggestions for yourself, or someone else, or have a question about one of our events, please call us, and we'll be happy to help.

Most of all, please remember to SHOP LOCAL! Local businesses GIVE BACK to the community and the schools where you live.

The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War
by Halberstam, David
"This eagerly awaited work by the late journalist / historian examines the causes, course, and effects of the Korean War. Halberstam focuses on the bravery of the soldiers on both sides, shows the consequences of poor strategic thinking, and weaves a dense historical context for a better understanding of the war. This will become the definitive work on that conflict." --John Pollock, The Hickory Stick Bookshop, Washington Depot, CT

Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow
by Lesser, Elizabeth
In the more than twenty-five years since she co-founded Omega Institute - now the world's largest center for spiritual retreat and personal growth -Elizabeth Lesser has been an intimate witness to the ways in which people weather change and transition. In a beautifully crafted blend of moving stories, humorous insights, practical guidance, and personal memoir, she offers tools to help us make the choice we all face in times of challenge: Will we be broken down and defeated, or broken open and transformed? Lesser shares tales of ordinary people who have risen from the ashes of illness, divorce, loss of a job or a loved one - stronger, wiser, and more in touch with their purpose and passion. And she draws on the world's great spiritual and psychological traditions to support us as we too learn to break open and blossom into who we were meant to be.

Quote of the Day

"Books are the best of things, well used; abused, among the worst. What is the right use? What is the one end which all means go to effect? They are for nothing but to inspire."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson
The American Scholar
From The Quotable Book Lover (Lyons Press)
